Compassion - Joshua’s Adventure

What an adventure

When we met Joshua in Uganda, he was so full of energy and joy. We already shot another film in the days before arriving in Kampala Uganda, and we were struck by how different this story was. So we decided to change our plans and make a film that would honour him as the strong and resilient kid that he is. We wanted to combine his serious history of sickness, poverty and hardship with the energy that he takes it all on. Visually I wanted a film that would fit the story best, so my inspiration was that of a Wes Anderson movie combined with a documentary vibe (since we were still shooting as we went, without the safety of storyboards and a fixed script). The end result is a small film that gives us a lot of joy. And hopefully it gives the audience a new perspective of Uganda, the work of Compassion and the strong people that live in this beautiful country.
